James Monroe
(1758 - 1831)

James Monroe was an American statesman who 
served as the fifth president of the United States
from 1817 to 1825.

He is perhaps best known  for issuing the
 Monroe Doctrine, a policy of opposin
 European colonialism in the Americas.
.
Following his retirement in 1825, Monroe was 
plagued by financial difficulties, and died on 
July 4, 1831 in New York City.
