Genghis Khan, born as Temujin, was the founder and first 
Great Khan and Emperor of the Mongol Empire, which 
became the largest empire in history after his death.

He came to power by uniting many of the nomadic tribes 
in Northeast Asia. He launched the Mongol invasions that 
conquered most of Eurasia, Middle East, Central Asia
 and China. Genghis Khan is often considered to be the 
greatest conqueror of all time.

Present-day Mongolians regards him as the founding 
father of Mongolia. Genghis Khan died in August 1227, 
during the fall of Yichuan. The exact cause of his 
death remains a mystery.
