Lee is a South Korean former politician and 
businessman who served as 17th President of 
South Korea from 2008 to 2013.

Lee altered the South Korean governments 
approach to North Korea, preferring a more 
hard line strategy in the wake of increased 
provocation from the North.

He ended his five-year term on 24 February 2013. 
 On March 2018, Lee was arrested on charges 
of bribery totalling 11 billion won, and was 
sentenced to 15 years in prison.
