Tunku Abdul Rahman was the first Chief Minister
of the Federation of Malaya from 1955 to 1957,
before becoming Malaya's first Prime Minister after
independence in 1957. As an independent
Malaysia's first prime minister, he dominated
the country's politics for the next 13 years until
his resignation in 1970.
A delegation led by Tunku Abdul Rahman back in
Jan 1956 headed off London with a mission to
negotiate for Malaya's independence. The negotiation
was successful, and the cry of "MERDEKA" was heard
throughout Malaya on 31 Aug 1957.
Commonly known simply as "Tunku", Abdul Rahman
is widely regarded is as Malaysia's "Founding Father" (Bapa Malaysia).
