Chulalongkorn, also known as King Rama V,
was the fifth monarch of Siam under the
House of Chakri, who reigned from 1868 to 1910.
He was known to theSiamese of his time as
Phra Phuttha Chao Luang พระพุทธเจ้าหลวง
(the Royal Buddha) and Phra Piya Maharat
พระปิยมหาราช (the Great Beloved King).
He died on 23 October 1910 of kidney
disease at the Dusit Palace. Chulalongkorn
University, the first university in Thailand,
was named in his honour.
