Batu Khan, also known as Tsar Batu, was a Mongol 
ruler and founder of the Golden Horde, a division 
 of Mongol Empire.

The Mongolian military under Batu Khan conquered
Russia and the adjoining territories of eastern Europe.

Batu was a son of Jochi and a grandson of 
Genghis Khan.  Batu died in 1225, but his empire
survived until the end of the 15th century
