Ögödei Khan
Өгэдэй хаан
(1186 - 1241)

 Ögödei was the third son of Genghis Khan and
second Great Khan of the Mongol Empire, succeeding
 his father. He was the first ruler of the Mongols to 
called himself khagan (great khan).

Ögödei's accomplishments included building a new
capital Karakorum, and defeating the Jin state of 
northern China.  Expanding his empire across
Central Asia and Eurasia.

Ögödei died during a drinking bout, and his troop 
called off their intended invasion of western Europe.
